Cars in Germany's City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior political figure commented the attack made him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
